As most of you know, I am a 'Coupon Queen'. Three years ago, I saved over $10,000 while utilizing store sales, rebates, and coupons. This year, I fell off the wagon a bit and haven't done as well. I'm determined to do better in 2012 as it makes a huge difference in our cash flow when I am able to save on the things that we use every day.
I've spent the last couple of days re-organizing and decided to cruise the drugstore ads this morning. While there isn't a ton to be had this week, I did decide to visit CVS. CVS is my favorite of all the drugstores; however, when the new Walgreens opens in Chapel Hill, I may be converted....lol Here is what I did at CVS.
Transaction #1:
(2) Theraflu (6 ct) $6.49 ea (on sale for $4.77 ea - coupon for $4.00 off of 2)
(4) Progress Soup $3.19 ea (on sale BOGO - coupon for $1.00 off of 4)
(1) Head & Shoulders $6.29 (clearance $1.57 - coupon for $1.00 off)
Total due: $12.37 (My total would have been $34.19)
Received $3.00 ECB for purchasing (2) Theraflu and $2.00 ECB for purchasing Head and Shoulders (Saved: $21.82 and have $5.00 in ECBs for next time.)
We use Theraflu and this was a great deal. There is a $5.00 rebate available; however, it is for the warming liquid and the caplets which we do not use. The Head & Shoulders was marked $3.12 and I was very excited when it rang up at $1.57. Robert only uses Head & Shoulders and $6.29 is what I pay for it when I don't have a stockpile - ouch! Note: I would NEVER pay $3.19 for a can of Progresso!
I was so excited about the Head & Shoulders that I went back in and did a second transaction.
Transaction #2:
(3) Head & Shoulders $6.29 (clearance $1.57 - coupon for $1.00 off of 2 - used $3.00 ECB from prior purchase)
Total Due: $1.03 (My total would have been $20.14)
Received $6.00 ECB for purchasing Head & Shoulders.
(Saved $19.11 and have $6.00 in ECBs for next time.)
I would have bought more, but, this is all that they had left. I'm pretty happy, though, since I saved a total of $40.93 between the two transactions and have $8.00 in ECBs left to use on my next trip.
As it turns out with the clearance sale, coupons, and ECBs, the Head and Shoulders was FREE + a money maker of $3.30.
