You will find that I will most often post about Harris Teeter and CVS. Those are my all time favorite places to shop. Here in the Chapel Hill/Durham area, we are blessed to have great stores with great associates.
My tip of the day involves Harris Teeter. When visiting, always look for reduced produce! You will usually find these items bagged in typical produce bags on a tall wire rolling cart. Most stores have these carts in a spot that isn't always that visible, so, HUNT!
I can tell you that you will be surprised at how fresh these items usually are. For instance, I purchased 4 bell peppers last Saturday. I put them in the frig and just got around to doing something with them today. They were fine - only 1 or 2 little spots to remove!
Items that you will most often find include bell peppers, apples, and oranges. Sometimes, there will be other treasures such as the mixed nuts that I found last week after the Holidays. They had been $4.99/lb; however, I was able to purchase them for $0.49/lb. Nuts freeze well!
Apples and Oranges can be dried for use later. Don't forget that dried apples and oranges are great craft items. Bell peppers freeze well also. I plan to stock up on those in order to can chow-chow and other great goodies in the Spring and Summer.
So, heads up, all! Check out the produce department at Harris Teeter for great finds!
